TEDDY PAYNE Exhibition Opens Saturday, March 2 @ 2pm!

Join us for the opening of The Wonderful World of Teddy Payne at Agora Gallery on Saturday, March 2 @ 2pm!

In honour of Teddy’s 98th birthday and to celebrate his important contribution to Stratford’s cultural scene over the past five decades, Agora Gallery is delighted to present this exhibition featuring 40 of his whimsical watercolour paintings inspired by his life in Stratford. A selection of books and posters will also be available. Proceeds from the sale of art and books will go to support the Artist.

Unfortunately, Teddy is unable to attend an exhibition opening, so instead we are inviting his many friends to visit the gallery over the weekend of March 2 & 3 to record video messages (or drop off written messages) which will be given to him on his birthday on March 5.  For those who are unable to visit the gallery, you are invited to send messages for Teddy to art@agoragallery.ca and I will personally pass them on to him. You can also support him by purchasing art from our online gallery www.shop-agora-gallery.ca: Teddy’s paintings will go live on Monday, March 4.

EDWARD (TEDDY) PAYNE’s roots are in Constable country (Suffolk & Norfolk counties in Eastern England) and his watercolours of Stratford, Ontario and the surrounding countryside show this early influence. Although his work represents local and familiar scenes, there is a hint of another time and place that is delicately and wistfully conveyed. He completed his Art education at St. Martins School of Art in London where he studied drawing and commercial illustration. Teddy has exhibited in several of Agora Gallery’s group exhibitions and has been a regular and popular exhibitor at Stratford’s Art in the Park for decades. He is also an accomplished author who has worked, travelled and lived around the world and served in the Royal Navy during the second world war.
The Wonderful World of Teddy Payne will remain on display until Sunday, March 24, 2024. Agora Gallery will be open Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 11am to 5pm during this time.
