RUTH ABERNETHY “Life and Bronze” Book Launch – Sunday, Dec.18 @ 2pm
Join us to celebrate the publication of “Life and Bronze: A Sculptor’s Journal” with a reading and book signing by Ruth Abernethy. Published by Granville Island Publishing, this book is a lavishly-illustrated exploration of the story behind Ruth Abernethy’s rich and varied artistic career: it is part memoir, part “secrets of the sculptor’s craft”, part celebration of Canadian culture and talent. Well known for her sculptures of important public figures – Glenn Gould, John Hirsch, Arnold Palmer, Sir John A. Macdonald, Colonel John McCrae and Doctor Norman Bethune, to name just a few – this book provides insight into the complicated process of creating large public bronzes, as well as the artist’s unique methods, greatly influenced by her years of stagecraft at the Stratford Festival and across Canada.
