“March Thaw” 2014, acrylic on masonite, 35 x 48.5 inches
Antony John will talk about “Return”, a retrospective of his exquisite life-like paintings and drawings created over the last 3 decades. Inspired by his life as an organic farmer, his work explores relationships between humans and other creatures, and their environments. Born in Wales in 1960, Antony John began painting as a student of wildlife biology at the University of Guelph. Correspondence with Alex Colville in 1989 convinced him to pursue painting while still maintaining his ties to the farm life that has provided rich subject matter. Whether painting birds in their habitat or animals on the farm, his work combines a deep appreciation of the natural world with a unique ability to convey its beauty.
